Special Sanitation Campaign 11 Sep-to- 10 Oct 2013_ Progress Review Meeting

Dear WASH Partners,
WASH Cluster meeting on September 10, 2013 proved to be a very productive step towards strengthening government drive for Sanitation Campaign.
In addition to getting a better understanding of why the Special Sanitation Campaign needs strengthening, a meeting in this regard is scheduled on 23 September, 2013 at 15:30 hours (3:30 pm) in District Council Hall, in Municipal Corporation Peshawar premises near Bacha Khan Chowk/ Chergano Chowk.
1.      MCP Administrator Mr. Rasheed Ahmad, will present progress of the Special Sanitation Campaign & challenges till 23 Sep, 2013; please note that all Municipal Sector In- charges/ Municipal Inspectors will be present;
2.      WASH partners contributions; All WASH partners who has contributed & still in the process of contribution are requested to attend;
3.      WASH partners who are contributing at intellectual level are also requested to attend;
4. WASH partners who missed earlier meetings may attend this very important progress review of sanitation drive meeting;

Special Campaign for Sanitation and Improvement of Municipal Services in urban areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa September 10th-Oct 9, 2013

Subject:   Special Campaign for Sanitation and Improvement of Municipal Services in urban areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa September 10th-Oct 9, 2013
 The Provincial Government has decided to carry out a comprehensive and result oriented special sanitation campaign from Sep: 10th -Oct 9th, 2013 in all urban areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by mobilizing all our internal and external human and material resources. During this campaign we have planned to remove the backlog of solid and liquid waste from the urban centers by cleaning open drains & sewerage system, removal of encroachments causing sanitation problems, cleaning of wall chalking, removal & treatment of stagnant water ponds. This will also include special awareness campaigns through printing & dissemination of pamphlets, flyers, leaflets and banners sensitizing the citizens to play their due role during and after the campaign. We understand that all this require effective coordination with all stakeholders for achieving visible results and most importantly sustaining the momentum in the future.
 It will be of interest for you to know that we have already mobilized all our district and municipal administration in the province to prepare and finalize their plan of action to accomplish the desired objectives with clear milestones. Besides utilizing the internal human and financial resources, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved special grant of Rs 100 Millions for addressing the complex sanitation issues in the metropolitan city-  Peshawar.   
In order to maximize the impact of this campaign and to facilitate our municipalities in the province in general and Municipal Corporation Peshawar in particular, we request our major WASH Partners and UNICEF to extend their full cooperation expertise and support in planning, monitoring and documenting of the activities to make it successful.

Interested Organizations may please fill the attached “Interest & Nomination Matrix” & forward to me on ssjr2@yahoo.co.uk by tomorrow, 5thSeptember, 2013, 1300 hours.

1.   Nominated focal points may please be ready for meetings on very short notice;
2.   Senior staff of the organizations may please be nominated as this involves Minister & Secretary level meeting(s);

31st WASH Cluster meeting will be held on 18 June, 2013 at 10 am in
PDMA Office, 4/C Circular Road, University Town,  (Near Zakia Minhas Hospital; Opposite Gul General Store), Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

forces backed by Pakistan Air Force had launched a coordinated operation against local and foreign militants.
Parachamkani situated across Tora Bora, which witnessed relentless bombing in 2001, is the tail end of the mountainous central subdivision from eastern side adjacent to upper subdivision. The area has very rugged and tough terrain.

Newly-displaced families would be accommodated at New Durrani Camp near Sadda in Kurram Agency, where 3,525 displaced families from central subdivision were already living. Over 180,000 families have already been displaced from different agencies of Fata due to violence and military operation during the last five years.
