Office equipments donated by UNICEF handed over to Tehsil Municipal Administrators of Malakand Division
Peshawar: (30-10-2010) The Senior Minister for Local Government Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bashir Ahmad Bilour handed over computers, printers and other office equipments donated by UNICEF, to Tehsil Municipal Administrators of Malakand Division including those of newly established nine TMAs.
In this connection a ceremony was held at the office of the Senior Minister today. Peshawar based UNICEF Chief of Office Deepak Bajrachariya, other concerned officials of UNICEF, Secretary Local Government, Khyber Pakhtunlkhwa, Secretary Local Council Board, DCO Peshawar and cocnrned officers of Local Govt: Department were present on this occasion.
Speaking at the ceremony Bashir Amad Bilour thanked UNICEF for its help and support for strengthening the municipal system in Malakand Division and also referred to its untiring efforts to support the provincial government for rehabilitating the militancy affected as well as flood hit and displaced people of Malakand and other areas of the province. He also appreciated UNICEF for their remarkable support to LG&RDD in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sectors in the recent past, that, he acknowledged, paved way for establish nine new TMAs; five in District Swat, two in District Lower dir and one each in District Buner and District Upper Dir. He hoped that the office equipments provided by UNICEF would certainly help our staff to provide better civic amenities in their areas through collecting information and other necessary data, analyzing needs of the people and communicating their requirements to the quarters concerned. He told UNICEF that normalcy has been restored in Malakand Vision but the provincial government was facing greater challenges in the provincial capital due to frequent bomb explosions and other anti state activities of the militants who have destroyed the civic infrastructure of the city besides causing other damages. He, therefore, asked UNICEF to concentrate on rehabilitation of Peshawar City as, he added, the City was overloaded due to massive migration of IDPs from Malakand and tribal areas as well as presence of a huge number of Afghan refugees.
Endorsing the Senior Minister’s concerns, the UNICEF Chief of Office assured to take more steps for enhancing the capacity of water and sanitation sectors of the TMAs and sought requirements for disposing of solid wastes of Peshawar City. Assuring provision of more support for rehabilitating system in flood affected areas of the province, he expected that the equipments already donated would also help, identify gaps in provision of services.
