61st WASH (4th) Flood Emergency Meeting
4th WASH Cluster Flood Emergency Meeting KPK will be held on
17 August 2010 at 9:30 AM in the WATSAN CELL, LG & RDD, Police Line Road, Off-Khyber Road, Peshawar, KP; WASH Cluster partner’s attendance & inputs are vital to the success of WASH programs for the Flood affectees.
On 17th August at the kick-off of our 61st WASH Cluster meeting, we are pleased to announce changes to our Chairs. We have a new WASH Cluster joint Chair, Public Health Engineering Department with LCB (WatSan Cell), LG &RDD.
A huge thanks to the longstanding and substantial contribution from Mr. Jamal Shah to WASH Cluster Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Thank you Jamal for all of your hard work and dedication!
Mr. Jamal Shah is appointed as WASH Cluster LEAD Pakistan.
WASH Cluster Khyber Pakhtunkhwa warmly welcomes Engineer Khan Zeb, Public Health Engineering Department joint Chair with Mr. Said Rehman, WatSan Cell & Mr. Muhammad Masud Aslam undertaking the Co- Chair functions for the next few weeks.

Cluster Approach
The aim of the Cluster Approach is to ensure coherent and effective response through the mobilization of Government agencies, International Organizations, UN Agencies, Programmes and Funds, and NGOs to respond in a strategic manner across all key clusters or areas of activity.
Objectives WASH CLUSTER
As per guidelines from the Global Cluster, the WASH Cluster covers the following areas of responsibility:
i. Hygiene promotion
ii. Water Supply
iii. Excreta Disposaliv
iv.Vector Control
v. Solid Waste Management
vi. Drainage.
The SPHERE project will provide guidance to ensure the minimum level of service to be guaranteed during an emergency.

WASH CLUSTR WORK PLAN
The WASH cluster work plan has been formulated into five strategic areas, covering outstanding capacity gaps identified by the WASH Cluster Working Group. The five strategic areas where increased capacity is required are:
1. Effective WASH Sector Coordination;
2. Effective and Efficient Information Management and Standards for WASH Humanitarian Response;
3. Increasing WASH Sector Capacity for Humanitarian Response;
4. WASH Sector Preparedness and Response;
5. WASH Sector Best Practice and Learning.
