Draft Minutes of the WASH Working Group- District Swat

Date: 12 July 2010 – 1100 Hrs
Venue: Public Health Engineering Office, Saidu Sharif, Swat.

The Working Group meeting of WASH Partners District Swat was held on 12-07-2010 at 11:00 AM in the PHED Office, Saidu Sharif, Swat. Mr. Falak Naz Khan SDO PHED chaired the Meeting. The meeting started with recitation from Holy Quran. After formal introduction the Chair welcomed all participants.


Updates/ Progress by Partners:
WatSan Cell/ UNICEF:

The representative of WatSan Cell/UNICEF informed the forum that TMA Swat has started replacement and rehabilitation of 18180 feet water supply pipe lines in Swat which were provided by UNICEF; these water supply lines were mostly 20-25 years old & were rusted he added. He also informed that TMA Matta started installation of 50 Hand pumps in Matta provided by UNICEF. He further informed that TMA Matta has hired 14 sanitary workers supported by UNICEF for day to day sanitary works of the Matta bazaar area.

HRDS:

The HRDS representative informed the forum that they are working in Islampur and Shalpin union councils. He also informed that so far HRDS have constructed 18 latrines, installed 40 waste bins & 2 hand pumps, rehabilitated 5 latrines & distributed 15 water tanks & 4955 hygiene kits and conducted 62 hygiene sessions.

Pak-CDP:

The Pak-CDP representative informed the forum that they are working in union council Tindodag. He also informed that Pak-CDP has conducted 120 health and hygiene education sessions in schools and community, both for male and female; he further explained that of these 42 sessions were conducted in schools & 78 sessions in community. He also informed that Pak-CDP has completed construction of 42 pour flash latrines in primary schools in Union council Tindodag. He also said that 53 communal hand pumps will be installed in union council Tindodag.

COMSATS:

The COMSATs representative informed the forum that they are working on water quality testing & sanitary inspection of water sources. He also informed that Comsat has completed water quality testing of 112 water supply schemes in district swat.

The Chair appreciated the efforts of COMSATS and extended full cooperation of the PHED.

WHO:

WHO representative briefed the forum on current situation of vulnerable areas of AWD in District Swat. He informed that the residents of UC Islampur are suffering from diarrhea & requested the partners to take part in the prevention or control of diarrhea in Islampur.

Action Points:

• WHO, Malteser International, HRDS and EPS will jointly tackle Islampur situation.

• EPS to make sure distribution of complete hygiene kits in schools.

• UNICEF to ensure supply of standard and complete hygiene kits to EPS.

• ARC to share their plans of Barikot water supply schemes with PHED.

• COMSATS to share the results of Water Quality & Sanitary Inspection of the area with Working Group & WASH Cluster Peshawar.
